THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DISTRIBUTION OF THE CHINESE MODERN DOCUMENTS OF SEISMOLOGICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  • In this paper,based on the method of bibliometrics,the basic characteristics of distribution of modern documents of seismological science and technology since 1900 especially for the last 35 yeras in China have been studied,using the data of over twenty thousands titles obtained from about one thousands periodical publications,collected works and monographs.Some significant conclusions are as follows.1.After the 1970's the number of seismological documents increased sharply each year. The rate of increase is 32% a year.2.The distribution of seismological documents in China corresponds with the Bradford's scatter rule of documents. It means that seismological development is dependant on other science and technology.3.The development is not balanced for each branch of seismology,reflected in the quantity and average rate of increase,such as the documents of seismo-sociology and earthquake counter-measures are not only less in amount and later in time,but also lower in their rate of increase than earthquake prediction and earthquake engineering.4.The number of documents increased sharply after major earthquakes,in other words,the documents were effected by major earthquake events in quantity within a short time.
